The Little Mermaid
A program with new Danish music by composer Bo Lundby-Jæger.
The title piece is based on a text by the historian Saxo Grammaticus and focuses on equality between the sexes. Perhaps surprisingly to many, women fought on equal terms with men in Viking age battles.
The program contains pieces for chamber orchestra and voices that the composer has written for a collaboration with the University of São Paulo / Ribeirão Preto and their choir and orchestra. Here, we present them in versions especially tailored for Theatre of Voices and Ensemble Storstrøm.In contrast to the stark Viking women, Lundby-Jæger has also set Hans Christian Andersen’s most famous and well-loved tales of unrequited love and sacrifice - The Little Mermaid, and part of the story will be read as part of the performance in KoncertKirken.
