Lang | The Little Match Girl Passion
Based on the story of 'The Little Match Girl' by Hans Christian Andersen, David Lang's masterpiece explores ideas of abandonment and death alongside influences from Bach's 'St Matthew Passion'. Not only did the piece win a Lang a Pulitzer Prize, but also a Grammy award for the recording done by Theatre of Voices.

Pärt | Virgencita
Arvo Pärt's 'Virgencita' was written after the composer was invited to participate in the Cervantino Festival in Mexico with the Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir and Tõnu Kaljuste. Pärt wrote the piece with the Virgin of Guadalupe in mind, who is another facet of the Virgin Mary that is commonly seen in many Mexican Catholic churches.
