Since graduating from the Royal Academy of Music in Copenhagen with reviews that named her “the voice of possibilities”, “a natural interpreter”, and “an intimate vocal-seducer”, Danish soprano Signe Asmussen has worked as a soloist with most of the national orchestras and choirs in Denmark.
Now, she is one of the most sought-after Danish recitalists with an ongoing cooperation with pianists such as Christen Stubbe Teglbjærg, Christian Westergaard, Erik Kaltoft, and Norwegian Arne Jørgen Fæø, promoting one of her favourite disciplines: The intimate recital with focus on the extended lied-repertoire from all around the world, which brings her in close contact with her audience. For this, she has recently been awarded the prestigious Aksel Schiøtz Prize 2009.
She has worked with international renowned conductors and pianists such as Michel Tabachnik, Franck Ollu, Lan Shui, Lars Ulrik Mortensen, Rodolfo Fischer, Michael Seal, Alexander and Howard Shelley, Peter Hill, and Rudolf Jansen, and international concert venues count Wigmore Hall and National Gallery in London, Symphony Hall in Birmingham, The National Galleries in Edinburgh, Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, along with all of the important concert halls in DK.
She has appeared in numerous productions at the Royal Opera, Copenhagen, and The National Opera, Århus: as Cherubino in "Le Nozze di Figaro", Bertha in "Il Barbiere di Siviglia", Valencienne in "The Merry Widow", Suzuki in "Madama Butterfly", and recently as a very successfull Idamante in "Idomeneo", as well as Musette in "La Bohème".
Her curiosity and sharp musicality combined with an incredible talent for interpreting contemporary music is explored with her contemporary trio, Voz Nueva, with colleagues Frederik Munk Larsen, guitar, and Henrik Larsen, percussion, and it has made her a preferred guest with national ensembles such as Athelas Sinfonietta, Ensemble Figura, The Scenate, The Esbjerg Ensemble, and Danish Chamber Players.
Signe Asmussen has recorded several solo-cd’s for the Danish cd-labels DaCapo and Classico, portraying a.o. Danish composers such as Otto Mortensen ("Songs") and Ib Nørholm ("Songs of Their Times") and German Carl Maria von Weber ("Meine Lieder, meine Sänge").
