Tulve | The Narrow Road to the Deep North

Helena Tulve's work, "The Narrow Road to the Deep North" is based on Matsuo Bashō's 1694 work おくのほそ道 (Oku no Hosomichi). This piece shows Tulve's work at its most imaginative and features a range of percussion instruments played by Ying-Hsueh Chen. With this extra timbre combined with Michala Petri on recorder, Tulve creates a rich soundscape using glass chimes, tuned gongs, a bowl filled with shattered glass, and, of course, Theatre of Voices. Commissioned by Theatre of Voices and premiered at Kings Place in London as part of their prize winning concert series, Venus Unwrapped.
